The Space

The Maison de l'Aguze offers a calm and welcoming space in the heart of Saint-Pons de Thomières, a small but bustling Languedoc town. The house is built around a spacious private courtyard, with views of the Aguze stream, the market square, and rolling hills. Built in a traditional style, the thick stone walls and local marble staircase keep the house cool, even on the hottest of days. Six uniquely designed bedrooms each have modern ensuite bathrooms, coupled with period furniture and features. Stylish common areas offer several options for relaxing after an active day.

VISIT SAINT-PONS

A house with history

Dating back to the mid 18th century, the Maison de l’Aguze and has had many incarnations over the years. The house was originally an important leather tannery and textile factory owned by the Laugé family, part of the booming textile industry of the era. An old banker's office is currently being converted into Studio Aguze, our new residential recording studio. The house also accommodated a wine-maker, a locksmith, a shoe-maker, and a barber shop. Today, the Maison de l’Aguze welcomes guests from all over the world, while we continue to find clues and learn about the history of this wonderful home.

The Rooms

The six stylish bedrooms take their names from the history of the house. All have ensuite bathrooms, comfy beds, and period furniture. We provide bamboo mattress toppers from Panda London, hypoallergenic Soft as Down bedding, and a choice of medium or firm pillows. Two of the rooms can be configured with two single beds. All bedrooms include tea and coffee making facilities, a hair dryer, towels, and luxurious vegan toiletries from Faith in Nature.

The Courtyard

The house is built around a spacious and relaxing courtyard filled with citrus trees and lavender bushes. In summer, this is a popular spot for meeting friends, reading in the warm shade, or bathing in a sunny corner. Breakfast can be served here, or a refreshing drink from our private bar. The courtyard can also accommodate small yoga groups and private gatherings.

The Salon

The salon offers a classic and cosy space for cooler days and evenings among friends. The room has kept its period charm, with hung fabric walls, traditional furniture, and a restored Gaveau piano. Guests enjoy reading a book here, playing one of guitars, listening to records, playing one of the board games, or enjoying an aperitif before dinner.

The Dining Room

The dining room is a bright and modern space where guests can gently start their day. We serve a traditional French breakfast, with freshly baked bread and pastries from the boulangerie, cereals, fruit, and a selection of à la carte options. Our hot drinks include Yorkshire tea, infusions, individually brewed coffee, and hot chocolate. The room can also be used for meetings, private dinners, and as a remote working space.

The Bar

New to Maison de l'Aguze in 2022, the private reception/bar is one of our favourite rooms in the house. Once a barber shop, it now offers a welcoming space for guests to check in, learn about the local area, and enjoy a refreshing drink. We are proud to support local suppliers including Brasserie Aucels from Bédarieux, Brasserie Raspaillac, and Domaine de la Senche from the Minervois. From 2024, we are excited to bring you natural wine from the new La Robina winery in Saint-Pons.
